A policeman from Shakopee shot dead a person who had pointed his gun at him Friday night, police said.
Shortly after 11 pm On Friday, police were summoned to a residence in Block 800 of Apgar Street for a fire alarm, the Shakopee Police Department said in a statement posted on social media. An officer met a policeman who raised his gun and pointed it at the senior officer, police said.
"Fearing for his life, the officer used his gun to hit the man," the statement said. The person was taken to the hospital where his death was declared. A handgun was found on the scene, police said.
The officer is a 12-year veteran, police said. Officers carried body cameras and the incident was recorded. Minnesota Criminal Appeals Office investigates shooting.
