Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who this week became the youngest woman ever elected to Congress, called Fox News for downplaying her fight to buy an apartment in Washington, DC, at a round table gathering representatives from America's Newsroom.
The Fox panelists smiled as they discussed the subject, described in a chyron as follows: "A self-proclaimed socialist claims that she can not afford to rent DC rent.
Colleague Judy Miller actually laughed after host Bill Hemmer recalled that Ocasio-Cortez – whose name had not been correctly pronounced in the series – was working in the service sector before embarking on her campaign to represent the 14th district of New York.
"It's strange to see 1% presenters messing with the housing crisis in the United States," said Ocasio-Cortez, 29.
"There is no reason to be ashamed or embarrassed," she said in another tweet.
She added, "Even though Fox News likes to make fun of the working class, the real scandal is that at the richest point in our history, we are at one of the most unequal."
The future congressman revealed his cash flow problem in an interview published Wednesday by The New York Times.

"I can not really take a salary," Ocasio-Cortez said of the period between his election and his swearing-in. "I am without pay for three months before being a member of Congress. So, how can I get an apartment? These things are very real. "
She explained that she had saved a little money before leaving her restorative work.
After the publication of the story, Ocasio-Cortez tweeted that his problem was indicative of a larger problem: "There are many small ways in which our electoral system is not even designed (or prepared) for the working class to lead."
She added that her housing situation was being developed. The salary for the Ocasio-Cortez Congress will be $ 174,000.
Ocasio-Cortez also on Friday commented Fox News National Chief Correspondent, Ed Henry, and Miller, accusing him of misrepresenting his financial situation.
Miller described the problem of Ocasio-Cortez rents as "a shining political lie," and suggested that the future Congresswoman had crafted a ruse to paint herself as "little person … from New York."
Henry said the congressional woman was wearing clothes that "could pay a month's rent in DC".
After Ocasio-Cortez Suddenly Defeated Outgoing Representative Joe Crowley (D-N.Y.) At the New York primary, she became a media-lover, once accepting a photo shoot with Interview magazine. She did not buy the expensive designer clothes that she wore for the shoot – they were on loan from the magazine. But that did not stop the conservative experts from trying to call her a hypocrite.
"I've never bought the clothes and I've always told my story," Ocasio-Cortez said. "But repeat lies until they're raw, that's your thing."
