Hill fire in the Santa Rosa Valley: decrease in fire activity

CAMARILLO, California (KABC) –

The burning hill fires in the Santa Rosa Valley are diminishing as they head to the 2013 fire-burning area in Springs, fire officials said Friday.

The fire broke out around 14 hours. at Hill Canyon Road, west of Santa Rosa Road. The area is a few kilometers from the scene of a deadly shooting that claimed the lives of 12 people on Wednesday night.

Officials from the Ventura County Fire Department said at a press conference Friday morning that the fire covered about 6,000 acres with a 0% mastery. The head of the Ventura County Fire Department, Mark Lorenzen, said that the fire seemed to ignite the old fire footprint of 2013 in Springs.

"The fire activity has decreased and allowed us to focus a little more on this fire that started yesterday at 3 pm, the Woolsey fire," said Lorenzen.
During the night, the authorities reduced the fire to about 4,531 acres with a 15% mastery.

No structure was destroyed or damaged in the fire, according to the County of Ventura Fire Department. An injury was reported, but fire officials did not provide details on the condition of the person.

Saturday afternoon, SoCal Edison said that about 850 customers were without electricity because of the fire.

An extreme fire activity due to high winds challenged the 450 firefighters who fought the fire overnight, but the focus was on the defense of the structure and the safety of the people, said officials of the fire services.

At 7 am, the fire was threatening about 430 structures, including homes, commercial buildings, electrical infrastructure, and a Navy satellite communication site on Laguna Peak.

Evacuations are in place at Naval Base Point Mugu. Orders were raised for Camarillo Springs, the State University of California, the Channel Islands, the Dos Vientos neighborhood and the Vallecito mobile home park by Newbury. Meanwhile, the nearby Woosley fire charred 10,000 acres and destroyed several homes. That's 0 percent content.

Acting Governor, Gavin Newsom, declared the state of emergency in Los Angeles and Ventura counties because of the two fires.
