Twitter denounces Obama's visits in the rain after his visit to the cemetery

Critics were stunned by the fact that President Donald Trump skipped a visit Saturday to the American cemetery of Aisne-Marne in France – where the American war dead were being honored – because of the rain. They zapped him with a series of tweets showing Barack Obama under showers honoring those who fought in wars in what was bound to be particularly irritating to the president.

Nearly 1,800 American soldiers killed during the Battle of Belleau Wood during the First World War are buried in the French cemetery. But Trump abandoned his planned visit and stayed in his hotel room due to "unspecified weather and logistics problems caused by the weather," according to a White House statement. Instead, a delegation led by Chief of Staff John Kelly went to the cemetery 80 km from Paris by car. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron were among the world leaders who made the trip.

Twitter responded with photos of photos Obama campaigning or speaking at various events in the rain. A number of them introduced the former president in pouring rain paying tribute to veterans or those who were killed in action.

Obama was not the only one to appear in the rain in Twitter messages attacking the president.
