BOSTON (AP) – A new state program aims to reduce drug abuse rates among Native American youth in Massachusetts.
The state's Department of Public Health announced the launch of this initiative, funded by the federal government, following recommendations from an opioid working group formed by Republican Governor Charlie Baker.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that Amerindians had the highest rate of opioid overdose deaths in the country.
The new program will be aimed at Aboriginal students in colleges. The goal is to teach life skills that build self esteem and help them cope with stress and anxiety, in the hope that they'll be able to cope with stress and anxiety. they will not turn to alcohol, drugs or tobacco with age.
Massachusetts tribes will also be offered help in applying for a grant to solve these problems.
