The White House offers an additional reason, in addition to bad weather, for President Donald Trump not to attend a ceremony Saturday to honor the dead of the American War in a cemetery in northern France.

Penalized by critics for not attending the event, the White House said Sunday that Trump did not want to disrupt the roads with a last-minute procession. Traveling by car would have been the only option once weather conditions would have stopped the president's helicopter.

Trump was to lay a wreath and observe a moment of silence Saturday at the American cemetery of Aisne-Marne, located next to the Bois de Belleau and about 100 kilometers north-east of Paris.

On Sunday, Trump attended an event scheduled to pay tribute to the victims of the American War in another American cemetery just outside Paris.
