Mourinho laments fixture schedule
Jose Mourinho complained that Manchester City had an ‘easier’ preparation for the Manchester derby than United did due to the fixture scheduling.
City thrashed Southampton 6-1 a week before the derby and hosted Shakhtar Donetsk in a 6-0 Champions League thumping on Wednesday night. United’s previous league game was at Bournemouth last Saturday, which preceded their European victory at Juventus on Wednesday.
Earlier this month, Mourinho lamented that United’s trips to Juve and Valencia were scheduled before weekend fixtures at City and Liverpool, where United travel to next month. After United’s 3-1 derby loss on Sunday, Mourinho claimed City developed mental and physical advantages going into the game.
“One thing is they won in the championship,” Mourinho said. “First match of the season and analyse since the first match of the season, the points, they show one team starts strong and still is and another team that didn’t start well and is improving a lot.
“If you focus on the game today was open for 80-something minutes, I don’t think anybody left the stadium. In a week where Manchester City played at home three matches, and we play three matches away, a week where they enjoy 6-0, 6-1 victories. Relaxed, no pressure, no mental effort, everything nice and easy.”
