Oklahoma City Snow Roads
Teams from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation treat roads and bridges due to winter conditions. Teams apply salt and sand to bridges to follow counties:
- In northwestern Oklahoma: Cimarron, Texas, Beaver, Harper, Ellis, Woodward; and
- In West Oklahoma: Roger Mills, Greer, Dewey, Blaine, Caddo, Camanche and Grady.
Teams will continue to monitor weather conditions in the state and will deploy salt and sand haul trucks as needed. Drivers are advised to exercise caution in these areas all morning and to be vigilant in case of changing weather conditions.
In case of snow and ice, officials urge drivers to:
- Stay about 200 feet behind the road clearance equipment; Crews need room for maneuver and can engage in plowing or spreading work without notice.
- Allow extra space between vehicles to ensure sufficient stopping distance.
- Be aware of the "black ice", which looks wet on the road but is a thin layer of ice.
- Be patient, plan your travels and plan for more time to reach your destinations.
