Ryan Reynolds is a Pokemon

Pikachu speaks – and looks strangely like Ryan Reynolds – in the band Pokemon: Detective Pikachu trailer. Detective Pikachu from the animated / action movie also has a fur and realistic features, which makes him far removed from his counterpart cartoan Pokémon video games and 2D animation films / TV shows.

Legendary plans announced for their live-action Pokémon movie back in 2016, with Alex Hirsch (Gravity falls) and Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) on board as the screenwriters of the film. It was revealed later that the film is based on the Detective Pikachu games and is directed by Rob Letterman of Monsters against Aliens and Goose bumps celebrity. Detective Pikachu Filming officially began around the beginning of the year. Reynolds voiced the main character in front of a human cast including Judge Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Kathryn Newton (Blockers), Ken Watanabe (Godzilla) and Suki Waterhouse (Nation of assassination), among others.

Warner Bros. (who has acquired Detective Pikachu Universal earlier this year) released the official release Detective Pikachu online trailer, before its premiere in theaters this weekend with the sequel to the Wizarding World studio, Fantastic Beasts: The Grindelwald Crimes. In addition to offering the first look at Reynolds as a living Pikachu, the Detective Pikachu the trailer features the setting of the movie Rhyme City – a "modern and sprawling metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a very realistic world of real action". As the trailer reveals, the film follows Tim (Smith), a 21-year-old aspiring coach, looking for his missing father – the private eye Harry Goodman – with the help of his partner Pikachu, that only Tim can understand. The trailer also includes brief appearances by Newton as junior journalist Lucy (who joins Tim and Pikachu in their quest, hoping to win his first big scoop), as well as live CGI versions of Pokémon like Jigglypuff , Charizard and M. Mime, among others.

Overall, the Detective Pikachu the trailer has a black comedy / detective vibe, reminiscent of the puppet comedy of last summer, Happy murders (Although, of course, the former is much more family friendly than the Jim Henson R-rated box office bomb). Although the 3D animated versions of the Pokémon themselves look pretty good here, it will certainly take some time for everyone to adapt to the Deadpool voice coming out of Pikachu's mouth. Still, Letterman and his writers have a strong franchise record that allows them to please the crowd, and this bodes well for Detective Pikachu as a whole (Reynolds' voice may be ill-fitting and all the work).
