Pence and Abe discuss trade and Korea before regional summits

TOKYO – US Vice President Mike Pence met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to discuss bilateral trade and their policies in North Korea.

Pence told Abe, at the start of their talks on Tuesday, that he planned to follow up on the bilateral free trade talks that both countries have agreed to open.

Japan has been forced to reduce its trade surplus with the United States.

Pence and Abe ensured their cooperation on the denuclearization of North Korea.

Mr. Pence will leave on Tuesday to attend a meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in Singapore and a summit on Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation in Papua New Guinea, on behalf of of President Donald Trump.
