Time flies when we're having fun – and when you look foxtrot of pseudo-celebrities for a shiny trophy.
Example: although it seems that Dance with the stars has just launched its 27th season, there are only a few days left to learn which couple would hoist this coveted Mirrorball Trophy.
Monday's show eliminated two of the remaining six pairs, and only four headed for next week's final. And with a list going from Joe's grocery store (which only just scored eight) to Juan Pablo Di Pace (who has won 30 perfect points several times this season), that's for sure to say it's one of DancingThe most unequal semifinal episodes of recent memory.
Let's go back to the highlights of Monday's episode:
BEST OF NIGHT
Juan Pablo Di Pace and pro Cheryl Burke (Argentine Tango) – For 90 seconds, I completely forgot that I was watching an amateur dancer playing with a professional partner. This Argentine tango was so passionate, so precise and so intense that it really seemed like two professional dancers were just doing their job in the ballroom. Juan Pablo and Cheryl received their fair share of the perfect scores this season, but this routine was legitimately perfect. Judges' rating: 30/30
The most entertaining
Alexis Ren and Alan Bersten (Jive) – I needed to drink a bottle of water after watching this performance and I only watched it from my couch. Alexis and Alan took full advantage of their second try to jive, packing the performance with tons of content and a rate so fast that I thought Alexis was about to step out of the dance floor and fall into the crowd. Towards the end of the routine, it would seem that Alexis' energy was down and she dropped half a step behind Alan and the troop dancers – but the rest of the jive was so well executed remains the same. 39, one of the strongest performances of the night. Judges' rating: 30/30
CHILDREN'S POSTER FOR DANCE WITH STARS
Evanna Lynch and pro Keo Motsepe (Foxtrot) – Each new season of DWTS brings a few categories of amateurs to the ballroom: those who have experience, like Juan Pablo; those who have no idea what they are doing, like Grocery Store Joe; and those who have a lot of potential and just need time to grow. Evanna belongs to this last category and it's actually my favorite. While it's fun to watch players score perfect points every week, it's even more enjoyable to watch a rough diamond, like Evanna, make its way to the top of the rankings while gaining confidence and technical skill. She's become one of my favorite competitors to watch every week and I'm thrilled that Keo finally has the chance to experience the rush of the semi-finals. Judges' rating: 28/30
THE MOST FUN SURPRISE
Joe's Grocery Store and pro Jenna Johnson (Quickstep) – Even though most Dancing Competitors have a difficult first week in the ballroom, I distinctly remember watching parts of Joe's quick sequence, first season, between my fingers. The lack of coordination and timing was so blatant at the time that I was nervous to see Joe attacking the style again on Monday – so as not to marvel at his progress since the first week. If we're serious about who has enough dance talent to win the Mirrorball next week, Joe is not that guy. But he also had twice as many obstacles to overcome during season 27 – including judges who seem to be proud to give him compliments on the back of the hand – and I was really surprised by the courage and technical skill he showed in this quick pass. Judges' rating: 24/30
