WESTTOWN, N.Y. – An elephant that was burned by napalm during the Vietnam War was sent back to an animal sanctuary in upstate New York after a night walk.
State police announced that they had gone to the Sanctuary for Animals in Westtown on Sunday night when they had received a call regarding a wandering elephant.
Amanda Brook, whose family owns the sanctuary, tells the Times Herald-Record that the 46-year-old Asian elephant named Fritha has lived at the shrine for most of her life. She got lost when a worker forgot to turn on an electric fence that keeps her in her designated space at night.
Her owners and her soldiers found her nearby and escorted her home.
The sanctuary also runs Dawn Animal Agency, which provides animals for movies, commercials and talk shows.
