After days of harsh criticism, the controversial Broward election supervisor said Tuesday may not run for another term.
Brenda Snipes told reporters "it's time to move on" after her 15-year term as head of the Broward County Elections. Its current mandate runs until 2020.
"I think I have fulfilled the purpose for which I came, to provide a credible election product to Broward," she said.
The decision is not final, she says, because she still has to talk to her family.
Snipes' announcement came after a reporter asked him to respond to a tweet from former Florida governor Jeb Bush, who had named Snipes, asking him to dismiss her.
"There is no doubt Brenda Snipes, the Broward County election supervisor, did not respect Florida law in many ways, undermining Floridians' confidence in our electoral process," Bush said.
Snipes called the tweet "his opinion" and said she's been working tirelessly since Bush had chosen her. Since then, she has been elected four times and is expected to be re-elected in 2020.
If she remains in office until then, she will oversee the 2020 presidential election, the same as that in which her successor would be chosen.
"Many supervisory offices have different types of incidents," she said. "I do not know why we have more projectors than some."
She also responded to a recent unfounded tweet President Donald Trump accuses his office of "finding" votes, with no evidence to prove it.
"Well, I do not have any treasure to dig on the beach or find a vote," she said. "I did not have the opportunity to meet the president, but to see him on television. And he did not meet me.
