The documentary about the legendary performance of the late singer at the New Temple Missionary Baptist Church in 1972 will be premiering on the west coast Thursday.

amazing Grace, the concert film about Aretha Franklin's performance in 1972 at the Los Angeles New Temple Missionary Baptist Church, has been added to the AFI Fest program, where it will be premiered on the West Coast Thursday at TCL Chinese 6 Theaters.

Long chained by legal wrangling, the film, created from footage shot by Sydney Pollack, was originally set to debut at the 2015 Telluride Film Festival. But after a US District Judge issued an emergency injunction to At Franklin's request, the film was removed from the list of Telluride films and the Toronto International Film Festival of the same year.

After Franklin's death on August 16, producer Alan Elliott, who acquired the rights to the film in 2007, reached an agreement with the Aretha Franklin estate for the publication of the photo. He had his world premiere at DOC NYC on Monday and will start an Oscar qualifying race in Los Angeles on November 20th.

Elliott worked with a team of producers including Joe Boyd, Robert Johnson, Chiemi Karasawa, Sabrina Owens, Jerry Wexler, Tirrell D. Whittley and Joseph Woolf to complete amazing Grace, which was originally intended to complement Franklin's live double album of the same name. The film was edited by Jeff Buchanan and his music was mixed by Jimmy Douglass.

amazing Grace Franklin sings his evangelical successes in front of an audience including his father, Reverend C.L. Franklin and gospel singers Clara Ward and Ward Ward, as well as Mick Jagger and Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones.
