A A woman could soon join the ranks of the Green Berets.

A new report says that a woman has just completed the assessment and selection of special forces, a 24-day test of survival skills and physical and mental training as Special Forces applicants , known as green berets, must possess.

Lieutenant-Colonel Loren Bymer, spokesman for the US Army Special Operations Command, said the woman had been selected to take the Special Forces qualification course, the next step on the road to transformation into green beret. The 61-week course includes five phases of specialized training, including another language.

"We are proud of all the candidates who attended the qualifying session and were selected to continue in this direction, hoping to win their green beret," Bymer said in a statement released by CNN. "Our policy is not to disclose the names of our service members because Special Forces soldiers are performing covert missions after graduation."

Several women have tried the assessment since 2016, said Bymer, since the Defense Ministry has allowed women to take up all positions in combat. Special forces engage in unconventional warfare, counter-insurgency and special reconnaissance, among other sensitive areas.
