The winner of the Magsaysay Award has often been accused of criticism from right-wing groups for his secular position and for singing Christian hymns and other songs.
In August, a marginal group in Tamil Nadu threatened him for singing songs about Allah and Jesus in Carnatic. The controversy began after the broadcast of an audio clip on WhatsApp. The angry singer had tweeted "considering the vile comments and threats made on social networks concerning the karnatic compositions about Jesus, I announce here that I will publish every month a karnatic song about Allah or Jesus".
Given the vile comments and threats made by many social media regarding Karnatik's compositions on Jesus, I announce here that I will publish a karnatik song every month on Jesus or Allah.
