An American woman plunged to her death from an elevated deck on a cruise ship in the Caribbean on Tuesday — and police are investigating the case as a murder, according to reports.

The unidentified 52-year-old woman plummeted from an upper deck on the 3,600-passenger Royal Princess after struggling with a man who may have been choking her, according to Aruba-based outlet Diario.

The woman crashed into a lifeboat on a lower deck and was declared dead at the scene, the cruise company told USA Today in a statement.

The woman’s death “was reported to the local authorities who met and boarded the ship upon arrival. The cause of death is not yet known at this time,” Royal Princess told the newspaper in the statement.

“We are deeply saddened by this incident and offer our sincere condolences to the family and those affected,” they added.

The cruise ship took off from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for a seven-day tour around the Caribbean. It’s set to return to Florida on Saturday, USA Today reported.

The woman plunged to her death while the liner was sailing from Curacao to Aruba.
