Richard Bacon revealed that he had felt PTSD when he had visited the hospital where he had almost died.

The presenter had to be placed in a medical coma at Lewisham Hospital after being ill on a flight to the UK in July.

Aged 42, he visited the hospital for an immigration documentary aimed at ITV.

"I was standing in the room looking at the equipment I was hooked up to, with wires coming in from everywhere I felt PTSD in the room that day, for sure."

He returned to find out what role the migration had played in his care, but told the Sun that when the cameras stopped turning, he felt overwhelmed.

The presenter's agent confirmed to the BBC that Bacon had said, "Frozen memories came back to me from dark moments and frightening moments, like when I come out of a coma and hallucinate and think about my wife, Rebecca. , would have done if I died. "

Bacon, who lives in Los Angeles, was taken ill on a flight from the United States to the United Kingdom with presumed pneumonia.

After his condition worsened, he was plunged into a coma to allow his body to fight off the infection.

He said he had discussed with staff his six days in coma at the hospital.

"They told me that they were waiting for me to die, and my wife was waiting for the call to come and tell her that to hear a nurse m & # 39; Saying that it was very moving.

"I began to feel overwhelmed, claustrophobic and suffer from some post-traumatic stress, and I said:" I have to stay out there. "

But he said that he would go back to the hospital because he was going to do a fundraiser for them.

His report tonight titled Immigration: who is allowed to enter? is on ITV on Thursday at 20:00 GMT.
