The Iranian commander warns that the "total annihilation" of the "evil" American will soon occur

The commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps said the United States was about to collapse, saying "total annihilation of this evil power" will be imminent.

Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari made the remarks during a speech in Qazvin, in western Iran, the Iranian news agency IRNA reported. "The United States is a regime formed on the basis of capitalism, racial discrimination and hegemonism," said the commander to the assistants. "Our hostility to them will continue."

He argued that Western and American officials had acknowledged their "defeat" in their opposition to Iran, claiming that the "power and dignity" of the United States had suffered. Jafari also said that the United States is "much weaker" as a world power than it was four decades ago, when the Islamic Revolution managed to overthrow the Western-backed government in Tehran.

Tensions have remained strong between Washington and Tehran since 1979, when the revolutionaries forced Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi to exile and then stormed the US embassy, ​​taking 53 American diplomats hostage. All were finally released.

Trump, however, took a much more confrontational approach to Iran after his predecessor Barack Obama tried to improve his relations with the Middle East country.

In May, Trump officially withdrew the United States from the Joint Global Action Plan (JCPOA), commonly known as the Iranian Nuclear Agreement. This decision has been widely criticized by Washington's European allies, as well as by China, Russia and other world powers. Anyway, the Trump government has decided new sanctions against Iran in August, adding a second wave earlier this month.

The international JCPOA treaty was signed in 2015 by the United States, Iran, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, the European Union, Russia and China. According to the International Atomic Energy Agency, Iran remained fully compliant with the treaty, which aimed to ensure that the country does not create a nuclear weapon. Despite sanctions imposed by Washington, European, Russian and Chinese leaders have worked to counter punitive financial measures.

Last week, the French Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, criticized Trump's sanctions, promising to lead Europe to the challenge. "Europe refuses to allow the United States to be responsible for the world's trade policy," he said.

Iranian leaders have consistently used energetic rhetoric to attack the United States and the Trump administration. In July, the president of the country, Hassan Rouhani, warned Washington: "Do not play with fire, you will regret." He also said that "the war with Iran is the mother of all wars".

Trump responded on Twitter with a tweet all in capital letters. "NEVER LEAD AGAIN ONCE THE UNITED STATES, IT WILL HAVE INCIDENTS THAT HAVE RESPONDED TO SOME PARENTS OF THE HISTORY," he writes.
