[ad_1]

England great Wayne Rooney got a heartfelt send-off as Southgate's Gareth's experimental side beat the United States at Wembley.

Rooney received a standing ovation when brought on in the 58th minute of a match that Southgate's men were already in control of a fine Jesse Lingard effort and Trent Alexander-Arnold's first goal for his country.

There was no fairytale farewell goal for the 33-year-old, but he was first to celebrate with Wilson after the debutant scored the third of the day.

His opinion in the build-up, but there can be no doubt that the support for the Wayne Rooney Foundation and luck is only positive.

England XI: Pickford, Alexander Arnold, Keane, Dunk, Chilwell, Delphi, Winks, Alli, Lingard, Sancho, Wilson

USA XI: Guzan, Miazga, Brooks, Yedlin, Villafana, McKennie, Trapp, Pulisic, Green, Weah, Wood

'I have no words'

10:25 p.m.: England striker Callum Wilson to Sky Sports: Wayne Rooney is a legend for England, to receive my shirt from him before the game was a great honor and I got to share the pitch with him.

"I was lucky, I knew the luck had gone, I knew Marcus Rashford standing there and I thought I had a few minutes. for the rest of my life. "

'Something I'll remember'

10:20 p.m.: Afterwards, Wayne Rooney told Sky Sports: "It went as I imagined it, really.

"Being around the players has been a great way to see how they're working.

"I've done my personal thankfulness for you and I want to thank the FA and Gareth for giving me this opportunity, and the players.

"It was a great way to finish off my international career, the lads played brilliant, it was a great game, unfortunately I would remember for a long time."

ENGLAND 3-0 USA

FT: No fairytale ending for Wayne Rooney. His England career ends on a record 53 goals after being unable to score in his 120th game.

92: Here's Rooney … argh! Wayne twists and turns trying to make some space for the shot. He pulls the trigger goal Guzan makes a relatively comfortable save.

Rooney walks off smiling as if to say: "Oh come on, Brad!"

90: Gary Neville's just given the MOTM award to Trent Alexander-Arnold. He's been excellent tonight. Wayne Rooney is looking for that priceless goal goal I do not think the fairytale ending is going to happen.

Three minutes added time.

88: Did everyone else get the briefing that we play until Rooney scores? Just me then …

85: McCarthy, who comfortably plucks the ball out of the sky and punts it downfield.

83: Would you believe it! Croatia have scored in stoppage-time to beat Spain 3-2. That's all in the Sunday's League League showdown at Wembley.

England vs USA: Express Sport from Wembley Stadium

80: Callum Wilson was last touch. Marcus Rashford replaces him for the final ten minutes.

Callum Wilson is the first ever Bournemouth player to score for England, and the first player to score on his Three Lions debut since Marcus Rashford in May 2016.

ENGLAND 3-0 USA | WILSON

77: Callum Wilson scores on his England debut!

It's been a frustrating night for the Bournemouth striker and he's proved that country persistence by Fabian Delph's cross from the left touchline.

Just in the nick of time because I think it's going off shortly.

76: Finally some free-flowing play! Rooney and Loftus-Cheek combines to free Trent down the right. Wilson, who could not quite reach it.

73: The tension when England push forward is unbearable! Everyone's looking for Wayne Rooney's run and trying to find him come hell or high water. Sancho sees the English legend on the edge of the area, but his shot is Brad Guzan.

Brad Guzan now has the job of playing the pantomime villain. "Oh let him score," rings around the office.

70: Another few changes to break up the rhythm. Ruben Loftus-Cheek replaces Harry Winks, Acosta replaces Trapp for the US.

The paper planes have started … this half has been ghastly.

68: They have completely lost their concentration and they are doing it all.

Pulisic pumps the ball in the box and the unmarked Wood heads over. Lucky escape really.

65: The US send on teenager Tyler Adams for Julian Green in Midfield. You will be pleased to hear that Wayne Rooney has touched the ball but he was doing his defensive duties.

63: England do not really know where Wayne Rooney should play. Does not sound familiar … I think he's playing behind Callum Wilson with Fabian Delph at left-back.

60: Nearly the perfect start for Wayne Rooney, who finds himself in Sancho could not find him.

58: Here comes Wazza !! Wayne Rooney gets a huge ovation from the Wembley crowd. He replaces Dele Alli for the final 32 minutes.

With 53 goals and 119 caps to his name, Rooney has more than one of the world's most important goals.

Alli, Chilwell and Lingard off, Dier, Henderson and Rooney on.

53: Will Gareth Southgate bring Wayne Rooney on the 53rd minute? Nope. None of that feeling tonight.

51: Christian Pulisic weaves his way through the England midfield but his shot is easily blocked. Wood then tries to snapshot that misses the target.

The US showing a bit more since the re-start.

48: Jesse Lingard nearly profits from some horrendous US defending. Trent's lofted pass goes right back to the penalty area before the Manchester United man gets over an awkward angle.

ENGLAND 2-0 USA

45: No sign of Wayne Rooney I'm afraid. But there is a sign of Southampton's Alex McCarthy, who comes to replace Jordan Pickford in goal.

Twitter round-up

Kyle: Brilliant strike from Jesse Lingard and his goal against Panama at the World Cup.

Jamie: Lose / lose for Wazza this – if they get a brace in the second half it will be told you were not good enough. If we humble them 10-nil then it's "this is why he looks so good over there" …

Paul: Not sure l understand why Do you want to play with the best players on the bench?

ENGLAND 2-0 USA

HT: Dominant stuff from England. Gareth Southgate's side putting on the Wembley crowd. A few losses of concentration – goal overall comfortable.

Time for Wayne Rooney?

43: Callum Wilson will be a little disappointed that he's not on the scoresheet. He's seen a couple of good chances by him. Still, he's occupied the central defenders well and created space for the troublesome trio behind him.

41: Wilson collects a pass from Chilwell, spins Miazga but his efforts are scuffed and Guzan drops a cap on it. Not literally, though I always remember wearing a baseball cap for some reason.

38: That's the problem with exhibition football! Green capitalises on some sloppy play from Fabian Delph and Pickford tests with a long-range effort. Nothing the Everton goalkeeper could not deal with.

35: Well this is looking like an exhibition of football from England with a few flicks and tricks in the midfield area.

33: It's comfortable for England. Gareth Southgate's composing themselves and slowing things down to those two quick-fire goals.

ENGLAND 2-0 USA

30: "The USMNT trails by two goals after England takes advantage of two quick opportunities. We keep pushing, " is the message from the US sides Twitter. Got to love the optimism.

29: There were just 104 seconds between Jesse Lingard's and Alexander Trent-Arnold's goals for England.

ENGLAND 2-0 USA | ALEXANDER ARNOLD

27: London busses come to mind …

The US have started to unravel as an insatiable England grab another barely 90 seconds after the re-start.

The impressive Sancho collects Trent Alexander-Arnold, who cooly fires into the bottom corner. Quality finish.

ENGLAND 1-0 USA | LINGARD

25: Jesse Lingard loves scoring at Wembley. That's just a fact.

The Manchester United playmaker, who's gotten to the national level, has another one for his burgeoning highlights.

He collects a pass from Dele Alli before curling a sumptuous strike on the right-hand corner. Quite similar to the World Cup goal scored.

24: Far too easy for the visitors to cut England wide open. A simple one-two and a fortuitous deflection Michael Keane leaves and Lewis Dunk stranded. Pulisic breeds clear Pulisic breeds clear but Jordan Pickford comes to the rescue.

23: Some really nice approach play from England. Lingard, Sancho and Alli are combining nicely at speed but that final, killer pass is still lacking. Tiny bit more guile required.

20: Ah, be more greedy! Sancho and Chilwell run circles around the US defence before Borussia Dortmund star cuts into the penalty area. He SHOULD try to curl the ball around Guzan, but squares it into a congested area. Cleared.

17: It is still going after the United Nations League between Spain and Croatia. Should it stay the same, England will top the group and win if we beat Croatia on Sunday.

14: Jesse Lingard decides she's power to the best way to beat Guzan from an acute angle, but the US is steadily closing the gap to safety.

Seconds later, Pulisic's cross is headed for a corner by Keane – and the set-piece is poor.

11: Now … this will be debated long into the evening. Callum Wilson goes down under a challenge from Brad Guzan, who flew (kind of) off his line to collect through pass.

It looks a stonewall penalty on first glance but referee Manzano ignores England's pleas. The replays show that Wilson went down pre-emptively, but it would have been taken out.

8: Good luck for Callum Wilson to mark his goal with his goalkeeper Jesse Lingard. Should be 1-0.

Random question, but did Rooney fly over with the USA squad?

5: Ominous signs for the US, who can not get out of their own half. England, England, England, England continue to boss these early stages.

Corner to England. Dunk and Keane in the penalty area … woodwork! Dele Alli rises highest and heads against the crossbar but the star Tottenham is penalized for a push.

3: No messing around tonight, the Three Lions are going straight for the throat! Jesse Lingard and Ben Chilwell link up nicely down the left channel Leicester full-back's cross flies through the penalty area Fabian and Delphi hammers a wayward straight clearance at Miazga.

1: And after the national anthems, we're underway at Wembley. Big night for a few beginners and lesser-spotted England players to make an impression.

Honoring Wayne

7:56 p.m.: Wayne Rooney receives a Guard of Honor from both sets of players with Harry Kane presenting the former Manchester United and Everton star with an award of some kind. Jolly nice way to start the evening.

Here they come!

7:53 p.m.: Wembley Stadium this evening. Actually, sparse is extremely generous.

We're about to see Wayne Rooney applauded onto the field. Standby.

Tribute

7:50 p.m.: FA chairman Greg Clarke paid tribute to Rooney's England career in the matchday program.

"I am delighted we will get the opportunity tonight to say" Wembley farewell to Wayne Rooney and acknowledge his wonderful career, "he wrote.

"As the team's record score is most-capped outfield player, he has given so much to England and the Wayne Rooney Foundation and its partner charities in the spotlight is still welcome."

While gate receipts will be donated to Rooney's charity, the logo has been played on the players' shirts, with collections and text-to-donate numbers throughout Wembley.

VAR better for everyone

7:45 p.m.: Terrible pounding goal It's Thursday and I've got one-eye on the weekend!

Anyway, Premier League clubs have agreed in principle to introduce video assistant referees (VAR) from the start of next season.

The top leagues in Spain, Italy and Germany are already using VAR, which makes it possible to get the best of the world, and the technology used in the World Cup in Russia this year.

The English clubs were provided with an update on this season's VAR trials, with key examples of its use in the FA Cup and League Cup discussed in detail.

"The League will now formally make a request to the International Football Association Board and (world body) FIFA to use VAR next season," the Premier League said in a statement.

Dan: Looking forward to seeing Wayne Rooney hand the captain's armband to Richard Scudamore in the 88th minute this evening, the real golden handshake.

Russell: Standard night of TV for me, can not motivate me to watch the Wayne Rooney charity match, hope he raises a decent amount and gets a good send off though.

Grace: Lewis Dunk can only learn from Harry Maguire's at this level. Has solid attributes, like to see if he has the pace? Not going to be tested tonight really. Should look comfortable.

Adam: Hold on. Fabian Delph is England captain and people were complaining about Wayne Rooney being given a few minutes?

Golden handshake

19:30 Looking forward to my golden handshake when I leave the Express.

Obviously I'd love the £ 5million that outgoing Premier League executive chairman Richard Scudamore is to receive, but I expect a packet of Skittles and a card is more likely.

Today, the Premier League agreed to pay Scudamore the leaving gift in recognition of his "outstanding work".

Watford, Fulham and Southampton all voiced their disapproval.

Callum Wilson

7:25 p.m.: I'm not happy about Callum Wilson.

The 26-year-old Bournemouth frontman is the latest player to be rewarded by Gareth Southgate for impressing on the pathway, having spent time on non-league Kettering and homelessness at hometown club Coventry.

"It would be a dream come true," Wilson said. "There's no guarantee I'll get on, but I've still got probably 15-20 people from my family and friends coming to the game to watch, and it just shows for me what they want for me, what I want for myself, really.

"If it does not happen, I'll be sure I'm working hard, doing everything I can get to get that."

Alex: Great moment for Lewis Dunk and thoroughly deserved by the way.

US manager's position in a state

6:50 p.m.: The United States missed out on their first World Cup finals appearance since 1986 after a shock defeat at the hands of Trinidad and Tobago last October.

Head coach Bruce Arena lost his job as a result, with the United States Soccer Federation acting swiftly following the disappointment.

David Sarachan, one of Arena's assistants, was appointed as interim coach and took charge of his first game a year ago.

While the 64-year-old saw his temporary role extended to the end of the year, he did not stop at a gap in the USSF – who has come back for long-term replacement.

As one door closed …

6:45 p.m.: With England facing a crunch Southgate has already made a hinted he will mix things up.

This may be Rooney's swansong goal squad newcomer Callum Wilson could be handed over to the United States, while promising teenager Jadon Sancho is in line for his first senior start.

The likes of Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy and Lewis Dunk of Brighton could also come in for their international bows as Southgate offers up opportunities to impress.

Wayne Rooney's long goodbye

6:35 p.m.: There's only one place to start tonight's coverage.

Wayne Rooney will be bringing back the curtain on his record-breaking international career with an honorary presence.

The three Lions captain has final farewell in the lead-up to the World Cup, but Gareth Southgate's goal manager has proved last week that Rooney did not want to be impressed on the final.

Instead, it will be a substitute for the appearance of the Wayne Rooney Foundation.

Wayne Rooney Farewell

Wayne Rooney will wear the captain's armband and England number 10 shirt for the last time on a celebratory night that Gareth Southgate believes befits one of the country's best ever players.

The Three Lions' all-time top scorer and most-capped outfield player will come out on his 120th and final international appearance in tonight's friendly against the United States at Wembley.

Rooney is set to be joined by his children during a pre-match guard of honor by the chairman of the board of governors, Greg Clarke, before returning to the field in the second half skipper.

The way his record breaking international career is being recognized in the Wayne Rooney International Foundation, which Southgate believes highlights the lack of appreciation for the DC United forward.

"I think that has been clear this week – it has been disappointing to see him in his game but that is where we are," the England boss said. "The most important thing in the country is what we do, when you are in the dressing room and share the room with someone you know.

"The hardest thing in football is incredibly hard when you are expected to deliver."
