Official: Avenatti on remand for domestic violence

WASHINGTON – The two former wives of Michael Avenatti have defended the Los Angeles lawyer after his arrest on Wednesday, suspected of domestic violence.

Avenatti, the famous lawyer known for representing porn actress Stormy Daniels in her lawsuit against President Donald Trump, denied having committed a wrongdoing after being released on bail of $ 50,000.

Los Angeles police did not identify the alleged victim but stated that the person had visible injuries.

The first wife of Avenatti, Christine Avenatti Carlin, says on Twitter Avenatti has always been a kind and loving father and husband. "He has NEVER been violent to me or anyone else," she said. "It's a good man."

His second wife, Lisa Storie-Avenatti, denied reports that she was a victim of a gossip site. Through her lawyer, she stated that she was not at Avenatti's apartment when the alleged incident occurred, that she was never assaulted by Avenatti and that she never acknowledged that he was violent.

The two divorced last year.

The law under which Avenatti was charged applies to acts of violence perpetrated against a spouse, roommate or other person, current or former, with whom the offender has an "engagement or romantic relationship".

Avenatti denied being accused with a crime, despite a statement from the Los Angeles Police on the contrary.

In a tweet, Avenatti blamed the right-wing Internet provocateur, Jacob Wohl, for fomenting a plot to discredit special counsel Robert Mueller on false charges of sexual harassment.

"First Mueller and now me, when we are fully exonerated, I'll come get you Jacob Wohl," Avenatti wrote.

The 47-year-old lawyer has become a ubiquitous face for cable television news this year after Daniels sued Trump for breaking her confidentiality agreement with the president. Daniels, also known as Stephanie Clifford, said Trump had paid her $ 138,000 US to shut up about a sexual relationship just before the 2016 election.

Another case, in which Daniels sued Trump for defamation, was filed last month.

Avenatti himself is presented to the presidency, offering a stripped platform and a speaking tour in Democratic groups across the country.

Democrats in Vermont have canceled an expected appearance on the weekend after the arrest of Avenatti on Wednesday, the Burlington Free Press reported.

Avenatti also represents Julie Swetnick, one of the many women who accused Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct at his September confirmation hearings.

Swetnick removed some of these allegations and the Senate Judiciary Committee asked the FBI to determine whether Avenatti had conspired criminally with Swetnick to "make false statements to the committee".
