A school in Mooresville decided to cancel classes Friday after learning that one of his teachers had died during a trip to Mexico.
According to a Facebook page devoted to Patrick Braxton-Andrew's research, the Spanish professor and graduate of Davidson College has died as a result of a criminal organization during a trip to Mexico.
The Woodlawn School, where Braxton-Andrew taught, issued a statement in which it was written: "Out of respect and remembrance for Patrick, school will be closed on Friday 16 November. There will be counselors available on campus tomorrow, and people who are showing up well are welcome. All sporting practices of today and tomorrow are canceled and the Woodlawn evening at the Cornelius Drafthouse & Bottle Shop will be postponed.
"We are grateful for all that Patrick has brought to our Woodlawn family and are sending love to Braxton-Andrews."
Chihuahua officials and Patrick Braxton-Andrew's family desperately searched for the missing backpack for weeks. The family thanked the Governor and the Attorney General of Chihuahua for their "unwavering commitment to locating Patrick".

The officials are working on the recovery of his body.
Patrick's brother, Kerry, told Channel 9 that this 34-year-old man had been last seen by an employee of a hotel in Urique, an isolated town in the state of Chihuahua, in northern Mexico.
In January, the Mexico Daily News reported that 31 people had died there as a result of organized criminal activity.

The state government said in a statement Monday that the researchers had checked the cabins in the vicinity of Urique village and descended into deep ravines in search of Braxton-Andrew.
Urique is an ancient mining village at the foot of one of the many canyons that make up the Copper Canyon National Park, Mexico.
The family said that the research on Braxton-Andrew's body would continue so that he could return home.
The family said in a statement: Patrick died doing what he liked: traveling and meeting people. Join us to celebrate his life as he would like us to do. We will always remember Patrick and his joie de vivre. We love you PBA. "
