Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker said high school students who seem to be doing a Nazi salute on a photo are "a bunch of idiots".
Walker was asked Thursday about the photo of Baraboo high school students who circulated earlier this week.
The photo of about 60 boys was taken in front of the Sauk County Courthouse in Baraboo last spring. About two-thirds of boys have their arms raised in what appears to be a Nazi salute.
The parent who took the picture said that he was simply asking teens to say goodbye to their parents before going to the prom.
But Walker says, "I think they're just stupid, I think they're idiots, it's as simple as that, I do not know that it's more complicated than this, they are just a bunch of idiots. "
At the same time, Baraboo director Lori Mueller said in a letter to parents Wednesday that the district is planning a community program with civic, community and religious leaders. Mueller says the details will be "shared as soon as possible".
Mueller said, "We are very sorry that the actions of some of our students have had such serious and understandable consequences for people around the world."
