NEW YORK (AP) – The first snowstorm of the season has given way to rain and strong winds in the New York area, while commuters from here and elsewhere in New Jersey and elsewhere faced slow journeys to work.
NJ Transit bus passengers should expect significant delays and cancellations on Friday because many drivers have exceeded their normal hours and federal law requires a rest period.
The bus terminal of the New York Port Authority reopened after it closed Thursday because there was no place.
Some students in West Orange, New Jersey, were forced to sleep in their schools after the return of the buses. Schools were closed or were opening late in the northern districts of New York State.
Thursday's storm dumped 6.4 inches of snow in Central Park and killed at least seven people across the country.
