Firefighters announced Friday night that they would spend much of the weekend containing and cleaning up a fire in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
Officials responded to a structural fire on Friday afternoon in Boulder Creek, Santa Cruz County, and some residents were forced to evacuate, authorities said.
The fire, called the fire of the bear, began at 11:01 am and lasted 25 acres to burn east of Middleton Drive, according to Cal Fire. The agency's Twitter account for the Santa Cruz area indicates that the fire has spread to surrounding vegetation at Bear Creek Road and Mayfair Road.
#BearFire In Boulder Creek, Santa Cruz County operates 15 acres east of Middleton Road. The affected residences were evacuated. There are many resources on the scene, including several tankers and helicopters that fight the fire.

On Friday, at 2:50 pm, the fire was under control, said Katherine Gault of Cal Fire's Santa Cruz Unit. Evacuation orders were lifted several hours after residents were evacuated from the area.
Officials of Cal Fire San Mateo-Santa Cruz unit announced shortly after 20 hours. on Friday, firefighters would work to contain the fire and clean up the area until Saturday and possibly Sunday.

Several tankers and helicopters have been sent to the scene to contain the flames, officials said.
The fire, which spread to a "moderate pace", resulted in the closure of roads in Bear Creek and Mayfair Roads.
