AURORA, Colorado. (CBS4)– A fire burned houses after a gas explosion in a retirement community in Aurora on Friday night. A firefighter and a civilian injured in the fire were transported to the hospital.

Copter4 flew over the fire at Heather Gardens on E. Linvale Place, near Yale Avenue, just after six o'clock. There was an explosion at the complex. The fire burned two semi-detached houses.
Lieutenant Laure Bridges, of Aurora Fire, said that the fire had started in what is called a "semi-detached house" and that it was "a fire". gas powered. Once the gas was cut, firefighters were able to extinguish the fire. 
Fire officials say they are aware of construction work near the site of the fire, but can not confirm the cause of the gas leak.

The neighbors say that the smell of gas was so strong that she had invaded the area before the explosion.

Neighbors were warned of a gas leak a few days ago. It is unclear if this leak is related to the explosion and fire on Friday night.
The area was evacuated and a Red Cross shelter was installed at the Heather Gardens Pavilion.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The firefighter and the other injured person both suffered "life-threatening injuries".
