Diane Greene steps down as Google's Cloud Operations Manager.
Former Oracle executive Thomas Kurian will replace Greene as CEO of Google Cloud, she said in a blog Friday. Kurian will join the company on November 26 and assume the leadership role in January, and Greene will continue to serve as CEO until that date, she said.
Greene, CEO of Google Cloud since December 2015, said she had not planned to stay that long in the job. After her resignation, she plans to focus on mentoring and supporting women entrepreneurs and technology training projects.
"After three incredibly challenging and productive years, it's time to return to the long-time passion I've had around mentoring and education," she said.
Even after leaving the position of CEO of Google Cloud, Greene will remain on the board of the parent company of Google, Alphabet, she said in an article. She has been a director of the company since 2012.

Kurian was the president of product development at Oracle, where he directed his cloud computing effort. After a stay of 22 years at Oracle, he resigned in September after being bumped into Larry Ellison, founder and executive chairman of the company.

In a statement, Kurian said he was eager to join Google.
"I'm excited to join the fantastic Google Cloud team at this important and promising time," he said.
In his brief statement, Google CEO Sundar Pichai praised Greene's work on the company's cloud efforts.
"I am deeply grateful for all that Diane has done and I am very pleased that we continue to benefit from her wisdom on our board of directors," he said.
Greene, founder and former CEO of VMware, has recently been targeted by the fact that Google Cloud has become a distant one also being exploited by Amazon Web Services and Azure from Microsoft in the cloud computing market.

Mentoring will include investments in founding CEOs with engineering or science backgrounds and will assist them. I wish to encourage every female engineer and scientist to think about starting their own business someday. The world will be better with more women among the founding CEOs.
Work in the field of education will focus on initiatives that combine technology with in-person education to create high-quality, low-cost, scalable and personalized education. When Google bought the bebop, I engaged all my recipes in philanthropy, it is high time to put this money to work!

The Google Cloud team has accomplished incredible things over the last three years and I am proud to have participated in this transformation work. At our recent Google Cloud Next event in San Francisco, we had more than 23,000 attendees – a 10-fold increase from 2016. With nearly 300 customers explaining how Google Cloud helps them transform their businesses, nobody did not question our seriousness or our abilities.
The cloud space is early and there is a huge opportunity ahead. I loved working with everyone. I am particularly grateful to all our clients, partners and employees for the outstanding three years of working with you.
