Snow moves in the northern plains while the Midwest attacks arctic cold

Winter weather warnings are in place Saturday in nine US states, a snowmobile system that will bring snow from the Rockies to the Central Plains to the Great Lakes.

Difficult travel conditions are expected Saturday morning.

Snow associated with a cold front is pushed south by a system of high Arctic pressure to the north. The snow will begin in Wyoming and move south throughout the day to end in Colorado and northern Kansas. Another snow zone will work in the Great Lakes region on Saturday.

The total snowfall in the Rockies will be 1 to 3 inches throughout the region and up to a foot in altitude.

Further east, snow associated with low pressure typically brings 1 to 3 inches of snow to parts of Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois. There will be slippery driving conditions at the start of the day.

Parts of the Great Lakes and the northeastern interior will receive a small amount of snow on Sunday.

A weak cold front will cross the Great Lakes and cause light snowfall inside New England until Sunday.

The snow accumulations should be low, but the roads will be slippery, especially the night of Sunday to the beginning of Monday, when there is a risk of frost.
