A teenager from Egg Harbor City faces a murder charge after the authorities declared that he had stolen a car from a 61-year-old man and shot him dead.
The police found Sunil Edla of Ventnor in the street at 6 N. Nashville Ave. with gunshot wounds shortly after 8 pm Thursday, according to the Atlantic City Attorney's Office.
The 2002 Subaru of the man was later found in Atlantic City, about three miles from where he was shot, at 1600 Sewell Avenue, authorities said.
The teenager became a suspect after the authorities viewed the surveillance footage of the area and, the next morning, the SWAT of Atlantic City stopped the 16-year-old near the carjacking.
The name of the 16 year old teen is retained because he is a minor.
The teenager faces charges of first degree murder, felony, armed robbery and car hijacking, second degree illegal possession of a handgun and possession of property. a handgun for illegal purposes.
A preliminary autopsy confirmed the death of Edla as a homicide, causing multiple gunshot wounds.
The 16-year-old was jailed Friday afternoon at the Harborfield Juvenile Detention Center. It was not clear if the teenager had a lawyer on Saturday morning.
