State of Ohio vs Maryland: Meyer helmets slamming, Buckeyes on alert

The hopes of the Ohio State Playoffs are at stake in Maryland. The No. 10 Buckeyes lost at half-time to Maryland on Saturday, 24-17, and continued to fight until the third quarter. We will keep this message updated with new scores as the game progresses.

Ohio earned a score of 8 yards and 73 yards to reduce its deficit from two touchdowns to one touchdown. Dwayne Haskins scored for 2 yards to score.

RaVon Davis intercepted Haskins and gave him 37 yards for a touchdown in the first minute of the second half, extending Maryland's lead on two touchdowns.

The start of the match was incomprehensibly ugly for Ohio State.

The Buckeyes gave Maryland's Anthony McFarland two touchdowns of more than 75 yards. in the first six minutes. The first was a total breakdown:

And the second type was too, although a missed tackle catalyzed the game:

In a way, things could have been even worse. Maryland escaped a drive immediately after recovering a dog kick deep within the Ohio state territory. And on other shots, the Terps managed to score a shot on goal when Maryland's QB Tyrrell Pigrome knocked out receiver Jeshaun Jones in the end zone after half of Jones' corner kick slid off and falls. (The Pigrome replacement in Maryland, who makes his first start of the year after Kasim HIll's departure, who tore his ACL.)

Things got a little better in the second quarter, but the state of Ohio still missed a chance to tie the game at the end of the period.

Two escaped played a role in that. The state of Ohio has not recovered that of Maryland …

… or that of JK Dobbins, just before the goal line:

After 17-3, then 24-10, the Buckeyes were close to the break tied at 24, the ball coming back at halftime. But they did not do it.

The Buckeyes being crushed by Maryland (or just losing to Maryland) would be surprising.

But up to a point, since the state of Ohio has already broken its brakes over the last year and it has been modified like Purdue and Iowa. The same result at College Park would only continue a strange trend.

Ohio State was a favorite of about 14 points.
