President Trump left Saturday morning Washington DC to travel to California, after the death toll of the camp's fire has reached 71 dead and more than 1,000 dead. Mr. Trump travels for the first time to northern California, where the destructive camp fire is raging.
Governor Jerry Brown and Governor Elect Gavin Newsom, both Democrats, met with Mr. Trump on his landing in California to visit the areas affected by the fire. Trump visited homes destroyed in Paradise, accompanied by Mayor Jody Jones and FEMA administrators Brock Long, Brown and Newsom.
Trump told reporters that the federal government would provide "a lot of money and some expertise, and in one way or another, we will all work together."
"We need to do management, maintenance, and we will also work with environmental groups," Trump said on how to prevent future fires. "I hope it will be the last of them and I know that Gavin is engaged, we are all engaged."
Later, in Chico, Mr. Trump declined to say whether climate change was having a direct impact on the fires, saying that there were "a lot of factors". He said that seeing the devastation had not changed his opinion on climate change.
Brown and Newsom both welcomed Mr. Trump's visit before his arrival, stating that it was time to "mobilize for the people of California". Earlier this week, Mr. Trump threat cut federal payments to California.
"There is no reason for these massive, deadly and expensive forest fires in California, if it is that the management of the forest is so bad." Billions of dollars are poured every year, with so many lives lost, all due to poor forest management or more payments from the Fed! "Mr. Trump tweeted. He then approved a federal disaster declaration.
He also criticized forest management in an interview with Fox News' Chris Wallace in "Fox News Sunday," claiming that climate change "maybe helps a bit," the "big problem we have is management."
Mr. Trump reiterated these claims as he was talking with reporters on the White House lawn Saturday morning before he left for California. "We will be talking about forest management, I have been saying this for a long time, and the situation could have been very different," said Trump.
Mr Trump tweeted about his visit shortly before his arrival Saturday. He mentioned that he would visit the state with GOP leader Kevin McCarthy and Republican representatives Doug LaMalfa and Ken Calvert.
"En route to California with Kevin McCarthy, @RepLaMalfa and @KenCalvert from @GOPLeader, we are looking forward to being with our brave firefighters, first responders and @ FEMA, as well as with the many brave people of the California We are with you all the way – God bless you all! Mr. Trump wrote.
The President falsely suggested that state forest management was largely controlled by the state government, while it is the federal government that owns more than 60% of the land in the state. l & # 39; State.
According to the climate Nexus, climate change amplifies the threat of forest fires by creating ideal parameters to engrave. Climate change is affecting the conditions of our summers and our winters contributing to wildfires.
