Hail Mary, the Colorado State's winning player, was sidelined for a touching penalty.
The state of Colorado was almost the most angry of week 12 on the state of Utah, No. 23, until Hail Mary of Rams was dismissed.
The Aggies had a lead over the Rams for most of the match, until Preston Williams' 17-yard touchdown gave the Colorado State a 24-23 advantage, 1:36 into the end. Utah State responded with a 71-yard force offense that allowed Jordan Love to get a 33-yard touchdown pass to Aaren Vaughns in order to regain the 29-24 advantage.
With just 43 seconds left, Colorado State created a five-game series and took two laps to set up what looked like the ideal Hail Mary: Collin Hill traded a 34-yard pass to Williams to win the match. While the Colorado State invaded the end zone to celebrate its troubles, officials decided that Williams was out of the field while he was heading to the end zone, an illegal touching penalty that allowed in the state of Utah to win the victory.
The defeat would have been a shock for Utah State (10-1), who was the top Mountain West team this year and is now unbeaten 7-0 in the conference. Saturday's loss to Colorado State (3-8) is Rams' fourth consecutive.
