This is the world of Travis Scott – Astroworld – and we are raging there.

Houston's hugely popular Astroworld Festival took control of NRG Park on Saturday, bringing with it all the "thrills and thrills" promised.

"Thank you God for the weather on the day of the festival !!" Scott tweeted early Saturday afternoon.

Most of the details of the festival have been kept secret until this week. The training, including the Scott, Post Malone and Lil Wayne poster heads, was dropped Friday afternoon. The schedule and composition of the festival were published Saturday morning.

Astroworld is therefore a beacon for a city that has lost so many festivals – Free Press Summer Fest, Day for Night, and Westheimer Block Party – and deserves its own brand event.

A giant, a golden Scott head and a classic Astroworld signage greeted the fans at the entrance. The inflatable head appeared for the first time in July at various locations in the city, including Cactus Music and Minute Maid Park, to promote the Scott's Astroworld album.

Hundreds of people passed through the doors on Saturday afternoon, where they were greeted by photographers and various acrobatic performers. It was only the first bit of nostalgia for Astroworld.

The extended layout included a carousel, a ferris wheel, a mega-drop and various carnival rides that required the purchase of tickets. Dozens of food trucks have lined the perimeter. The booths of Merch boasted of an impressive range of shirts and hoodies playing on the theme of Astroworld. There was even an ephemeral store of records and cassettes.

"Astrodome" was a giant inflatable dome made up of arcade games, music and places to relax. The fans hit with Scott's songs, and the queue quickly crossed the sidewalk.

Scott used Astroworld's hype to present the new S.P.A.C.E. on his Instagram. He made his debut Saturday in a pop-up village of Rice Village with shoes and sneakers. A permanent location is promised next year.

Canadian rapper and model Tommy Genesis was the first to perform on stage Saturday, playing a series of rhythmic melodies. She was the only woman on the bill. The acts were divided between Thrills and Chills stages.

SoundCloud, Smokepurpp and Trippie Redd rappers hired fans with confused and messy sets. Smokepurpp urged people close to this front to create "the largest mosh pit in the world" and urged many of them to break through VIP barriers before being stopped by security.

Trippie Redd was on the scene 20 minutes after the scheduled start time, which reduced the score to only 10 minutes. He wore a Kurt Cobain t-shirt, heavy chains around his neck and started again the first song after asking a loved one to stop throwing bottles on stage.

Virgil Abloh from the Louis Vuitton and Off-White brands demonstrated his DJing skills with a burgeoning hip-hop melody series. Metro Boomin, a DJ and producer whose album "Not All Heroes Wear Capes," debuted this week at the top of the Billboard 200 charts, continued the party with hits from Migos and Scott.

The Houston All Stars received a warm welcome, the loudest applause being received by Paul Wall and Slim Thug. They were joined on stage by Johnny Dang, maker of star grids, who seemed to be enjoying a most enjoyable time.

The lineup also included Bun B, Tha Truth Trae, Lil Flip, Lil Keke and Z-Ro; as well as the new names Dice SoHo and Maxo Kream. It's a parade of Htown's hymns that propelled the crowd into the air.

Scott himself could not resist. He appeared on the side of the stage, dancing and hitting each word during the last set of Z-Ro. Always a Htown boy.
