Reminder of nearly 100,000 pounds of ground beef after an inspection at a Utah facility

SALT LAKE CITY – The Swift Beef Co. announced Saturday the recall of nearly 100,000 pounds of raw beef recently processed in its facilities in northern Utah.

In a prepared statement, officials from the US Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said that 99,260 pounds of raw ground beef produced at the Swift Beef plant, 410 N 200 West in Hyrum, could have been contaminated with E. coli.

According to the statement, the contamination was discovered by FSIS inspectors on November 15 and a reminder was issued the next day.

All recalled articles bear the establishment number EST. 628 'inside the USDA inspection mark, "the statement said, and include the following products:

  • 2,000 lb. – Bulk Pack of Swift 81/19 (Lean at 81 Percent) Ground Beef Mixed with Fine Grinding Product Code 42982.
  • 8-10 lb – 81/19 (81 percent lean) ground beef chubs wrapped in plastic and roughly ground, product code 42410.

  • 8-10 lbs – ground beef chops 93/07 "lean beef" wrapped in plastic and coarsely ground, product code 42413.

  • 8-10 lb. – 85/15 (85% lean) ground beef cheddies, coated with plastic, coarse sheep, code 42415.

  • 8-10 lbs. – ground beef 73/27, coated with plastic, 73/27 "Beef Blue" (73% lean), product code 42510.

The FSIS statement states that the affected items were shipped to distributors in California, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington.
