Jimmy Butler did not take long to make her presence felt in Philadelphia. In his third game with the 76ers, Butler managed to score three winning points with just 0.3 seconds in overtime to knock out the Hornets, 122-119. And in the process steal much of the light from Kemba Walker's searchlights.
Before Butler's exploits, Walker looked like the star of the night. He was absolutely on fire, hitting hard to keep his team in the match against the new look of the Sixers. He was in such a zone that even when his shots were fired, they still came in.
In the final seconds of the regular period, he hit two free throws to tie the game and give him 58 points at night. But in overtime, the Sixers were watching him closely, even preventing him from catching the ball. Still, he was able to add another bucket to reach 60 points, but that's all he would have, thanks largely to Butler. With less than 20 seconds left, Butler blocked Walker's shot and saved the ball for his team to take possession of the ball. And we all know how it happened.
Still, if the Hornets lost the match, it should not detract from Walker's performance, which was really incredible.
His 60 points was a franchise record, the Hornets franchise record and the record of a single game in the entire league this season. In addition, he surpassed all other teammates. What may have been the most impressive about performance, however, is its effectiveness. Walker was 21 out of 34 from the field and 12 to 12 from the line, missing just 13 shots.
