PORTLAND, ORLAND (KOIN) – An afternoon of protests, tense moments and projectiles has led to 6 people in jail following a new confrontation between Patriot Prayer supporters and anti-fascist activists.
The arrests and charges were announced by Portland police after nearly six hours of rallies, songs, skirmishes, and virtual fires over issues related to allegations of sexual assault and its political implications.
Of the 6 persons arrested, 5 were charged with interfering with a peace officer: Ruben A. Delahuerga, 25 years old; Betsy Toll, 68; Elizabeth L. Cheek, 33; Brittany Frost, 35 years old; and Gary Fresquez, 52 years old.
Fresquez also faces disorderly behavior. Hannah R. McClintock, age 19, has been charged with harassment.
How events happened
Olivia Katbismitch, co-chair of the Socialist Democrats of Portland in the United States, said Saturday: "The only thing that beats the fascists is a larger crowd of antifascists".
A much larger crowd of self-identified antifascists have taken to the streets of downtown Portland while Patriot Prayer supporters have staged a small #HimToo gathering, which means that men are often oppressed and abused.
While Joey Gibson and his sidekick Patriot Prayer Tusitala "Tiny" Toese spoke and danced at the small #HimToo meeting of up to 75 people, anti-fascists – kept out by police and homeland security officers – chant "We believe the survivors."
But as the rally ended around 4 pm, a march through the streets began. Portland police again began using their loudspeakers to suppress protesters.
Soon, tear gas and a small explosive were fired. Portland police ordered all protesters to "disperse north."
The crowd paraded through the streets. Songs of "Nazis, go home!" exploded. Police in riot gear arrived at various locations to keep protesters on the sidewalks.
Shortly after 5 pm, most supporters of Patriot Prayer and #HimToo cleared the area, but some supporters of Antifa and #MeToo remained along SW Yamhill.
However, at 5:45 pm, the authorities shot down the fence surrounding Terry Schrunk Square.

The demonstrations began at noon
Opposing groups started arriving early in the afternoon. The first gathering, #SurvivorsAreEverywhere, was organized by PopMobPDX (abbreviation for Popular Mobilization.)

One of the speakers drew a crowd of about 200 people: "The only thing that beats the fascists, it is a larger crowd of antifascists.We stand against the fascists! … when we fight, we win. " a crowd calls.
A number of women took the microphone to share their extremely personal stories of sexual assault and abuse.
A number of speakers also took oral measures to Mayor Ted Wheeler to a degree almost equal to that of Patriot Prayer and their supporters.
The rally ended around 1:30 pm, but other groups arrived immediately.

Later, another speaker said, "I know everyone may not be a convinced Republican, but I know we can agree that the left turned a sexual assault into a weapon."
Another speaker in the southern accent said he made the trip from Arkansas to speak at the #HimToo rally. He did not prepare a speech, he said, but he rose up against the "cabal of women democrats" and defended Roy Moore.
Counter-protesters also brought cardboard guillotines. They also chanted "We believe the survivors!" as various people have spoken.

Groups with opposing views cited the first amendment as they converged in downtown Portland Saturday as part of the latest round of political protests that could lead to violence.
Known players – Patriot Prayer and / or their supporters, Antifa and his sprawling and often masked supporters and tangential protesters – are expected to gather around Terry Schrunk Square shortly before noon.
