They were declared dead on the scene, the police said in a statement.

The Train to Christmas Town service was carrying hundreds of first responders and their families – including 200 children – at the time of the collision. Boston Globe reported.

They were forced to wait on the train for several hours while the police were investigating the dead.

"The train was a scenic train carrying many passengers at the time of impact. It was coming from Buzzards Bay.No passenger on the train was injured," said the Plymouth District Attorney's Office .

The train resembles that of the Polar Express, which carried hundreds of passengers in Wareham. The Saturday service was a dress rehearsal for his Christmas holiday trips.

Kaylene Jablecki, Passenger Services Manager, Cape Cod Central Railroad, told the World First responders and their families were invited to participate in the service each year as a thank you.

"Unfortunately, we had a tragedy," she said.
