School officials have informed Mike MacIntyre of Colorado that he would not be retained as Buffaloes head coach next season, sources told ESPN.
MacIntyre is in its sixth season in Colorado, which has lost six straight games, including a 30-7 loss on Saturday against Utah.
Denver7 News had announced last week that Colorado would separate from MacIntyre, but sports director Rick George said in a statement that he had made no "decision regarding the future of the football program ".
MacIntyre led Colorado to the Pac-12 championship game in 2016 and was named National Coach of the Year.
He is between 30 and 44 years old as a Buffaloes coach.
George wants to hire a recognizable name with previous experience as a head coach, according to sources. Possible candidates include former Oregon coach and Chicago Bears offensive coordinator, Mark Helfrich, Fresno State coach Jeff Tedford, Boise State coach Bryan Harsin and the West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen, who might be interested in changing the game after the season.
