The body of Patrick Braxton-Andrew, missing in northern Mexico in late October, was found, according to a Facebook page maintained by a friend and his family during the search.
After weeks of research, the governor of the Mexican state of Chihuahua announced Thursday that Braxton-Andrew had died on October 28, the day he was last seen strolling near his hotel . A drug dealer in the area was responsible, said the governor.
Braxton-Andrew, 34, is a graduate of Davidson College and has taught Spanish at Woodlawn School, a private school in Mooresville.
His family said that the recovery of the body had given them "a sense of relief," according to the message posted on Facebook. Last week, his parents told the Observer that they wanted to stay in Mexico until his body was found.
His family plans to bring Braxton-Andrew's body back to North Carolina, where they will hold a "celebration of life," they told the Observer.
"We are very proud of Patrick and the way he lived. He did what he wanted to do. He followed his path, "said his mother Jean Braxton last week.
