Netanyahu's coalition in turmoil as he rejects his partner's request

TEL AVIV – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been named Sunday Defense Minister, rejecting the key demand of a coalition partner who would risk overthrowing the government.

Last week's resignation of Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman over the Prime Minister's policy in Gaza plunged Netanyahu's government into a crisis. Lieberman removed his Yisrael Beitenu party from the government coalition, reducing his majority in the Israeli parliament, or the Knesset, to a precarious position of 61 out of 120 seats.
