WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump on Twitter on Sunday is grossly ridiculed by a Democratic Congressman from California who will likely assume the House of Representatives Intelligence Committee next year.
"It's so amusing to see little Adam Schitt (D-CA) talk about the fact that Acting Attorney General, Matt Whitaker, has not been approved by the Senate, without mentioning the fact that Bob Mueller (who is very conflictual) has not been approved by the Senate! "The President says in a tweet Sunday.
Schiff has long been a thorn in Trump's shoulder for his work related to Russian electoral interference and his assertion that "there is plenty of evidence" linking Trump to their activities.
"Wow, Mr. President, it's a good choice," he replied to Trump's tweet. "Did that sound like your answers to Mr. Mueller's questions, or did you write this yourself?"
Schiff was referring to written responses that Trump said he wanted to submit to a series of questions from special advocate Robert Mueller.
Trump's tweet was apparently in response to Schiff's appearance on ABC's "This Week" Sunday, in which he said Trump's appointment of Matthew Whitaker to replace the deposed Attorney General Jeff Sessions was "unconstitutional". Schiff said that the lawyer is "clearly a senior officer" in the administration and should be confirmed by the Senate.
Whitaker has been a harsh critic of Mueller's investigation in the past and Democrats have cited his apparent bias against the special council as another reason why he is not fit to lead the justice department. Because of his public statements, Democrats have called for recusal from the investigation.
Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer, NS, proposed to bind a law protecting Mueller from interference by Whitaker in the upcoming government spending bill. And outgoing Republican Senator Jeff Flake is committed to blocking federal judges until such legislation is put to the Senate vote.

The President seemed to imply that if Whitaker were to obtain the approval of the Senate, Mueller, appointed by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, was to do the same in case of investigation of Russian interference in the elections. But legal experts have pointed out that the Attorney General is a senior position at the Cabinet level, while special councils are not and therefore are not subject to the same process of approval.
On November 9, Trump said the same thing when reporters said Whitaker had not followed the Senate process.
"Yes, but Mueller either," he says, "I'm sorry, you're talking about the process in the Senate." Mueller is reporting, "he did not follow the process in the Senate."
