SHANGHAI (Reuters) – China has tightened the ban on importing solid waste, the official Xinhua news agency said in the context of the "war on pollution" in the country, which provides a series of measures to limit scrap imports this year.
Citing a government document, the official news agency said on Sunday that imports of 32 types of solid waste would be banned as of December 31, including equipment, ships, auto parts, titanium waste and scrap, of wood and stainless steel.
China's scrap imports dropped this year, as the country tightened bans and cracked down on smugglers. Earlier in the year, China had cracked down on scrap, paper and plastic imports as part of a campaign against "foreign waste".
China has tightened its solid waste import list several times over the past year and has already announced plans to reduce authorized waste imports to 18 types of waste by the end of 2019 , compared to 66 in 2017.
