A former disgraced Ohio judge was arrested on Saturday after stabbing his wife to death at home – two years after serving a prison sentence for a brutal assault on him, witnessing his daughters and needing surgery of reconstruction.
The Shaker Heights Police Department said in a statement that 51-year-old former judge Lance Mason was arrested on Saturday following the death of his ex-wife, 45-year-old Aisha Fraser. Mason has not yet been charged.
Authorities responded to a call for domestic violence involving Mason at his home just after 9am Saturday, FOX8 reported. After stabbing Fraser, Mason fled and hit his car against a police vehicle before being arrested, officials said at Cleveland.com. A police officer sustained injuries not putting his life in danger in the accident and had to be taken to the hospital.
Aged 51, he had previously pleaded guilty to domestic violence and attempted assault for assaulting his then wife in 2014. During this incident, police claimed that Mason had been strangled strangely, had received 20 punches, slammed and even bit his wife in front of his two daughters, according to FOX8.
Fraser was so badly injured in the assault that she had to undergo a surgical reconstruction surgery to the face. She filed for divorce two days after the incident, reported Cleveland.com.
Mason was sentenced to two years in prison, but was only imprisoned from September 2015 to June 2016 before being released. He was then hired as a director of minority business development at the Office of Equal Opportunity in Cleveland, beating another 15 candidates for the $ 45,000-a-year position.

At the time of his hiring, city officials told FOX8 that Mason was "simply the most qualified candidate for the job" and that his candidacy did not include a criminal record. In 2011, Cleveland removed one box of its applications to be verified by those convicted of crimes. He was fired Saturday after being arrested, reported FOX8.
His ex-wife was a Grade 6 teacher at the Woodbury Elementary School in Shaker Heights, and the news of his death has brought sorrow to the community. Shaker Heights City School District Director Dr. Stephen Wilkins described the killing as a "difficult time" for the community.
"Aisha was a dedicated mother and a long-time committed teacher for Woodbury students," Wilkins said in a statement. "She has touched our children's lives so much and we will be sorely missed, her loss is unexpected and the impact of this news on our school community is unimaginable and profound."

Friends and colleagues echoed feelings about Fraser's impact on the community.
"Aisha had that special bond with every child and I felt like a mother to everyone," Brytnee Crenshaw told FOX8. "She was so special – she has never been down – she has always been so happy and cheerful and I have the impression that we have lost a great person."
A candlelight vigil is to be commemorated Monday night at the school where she taught.
