Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Monday that the country will continue to export oil, despite recent sanctions imposed by the United States to stifle the country's oil market.
"We will not give in to this pressure, which is part of the psychological warfare launched against Iran," Rouhani said in a speech televised live on state television, according to Reuters news agency. .
He added that the United States "failed to stop our exports".
"Your regional policies have failed and you blame Iran for this failure of Afghanistan in Yemen and Syria," said Rouhani.
Reuters reported that songs of "Death to America" could be heard by the crowd in the background during parts of Rouhani's speech.
The Trump administration has reimposed the latest round of sanctions on oil and gas that had been lifted as part of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal. In doing so, the United States has granted exemptions to eight Iranian oil buyers, meaning that these groups will not be punished in the meantime.
Trump had announced earlier this year its intention to withdraw from the Iranian nuclear pact, an agreement dating back to the Obama era that provided for a reduction in sanctions for Tehran when it stopped developing its nuclear program .
The president's decision to withdraw from the agreement, despite the invitation of international allies, has revived long-standing tensions between Washington and Tehran.
France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the European Union, all of whom remained in the deal, tried to circumvent US sanctions that were re-imposed after Trump's withdrawal from the pact.
