CNN calls for an emergency hearing after Trump threatens to revoke Acosta press card again

The letter was signed by two of the accused, press secretary Sarah Sanders and communications chief Bill Shine.

The letter indicated that the Trump administration wanted to continue fighting against Acosta, despite the setback of the previous round, instead of seeking an amicable settlement.

It looked like an effort to establish a written trail that will allow the administration to restart Acosta at the end of the month.

CNN lawyers said on Monday that the network and Acosta "remain hopeful" that the parties "can resolve this dispute without further court intervention".

But Shine and Sanders' new letter is an "attempt to provide a fair retroactive procedure," the lawyers said.

CNN and Acosta therefore request a hearing on a preliminary injunction "for the week of November 26, 2018 or as soon as possible after," according to the file filed Monday.

Such an injunction could last much longer, thus protecting Acosta's access to the White House.

Lawyers were already expected to be back in court this week to discuss the timing of upcoming proceedings.
