White Magazine ends gay marriages

An Australian wedding magazine on Saturday announced the closure of its site after suffering repercussions for not introducing same-sex couples.

The founders of White Magazine, Luke and Carla Burrell, invoked their Christian beliefs for refusing to feature gay and lesbian couples.

The Burrells announced White's closure in a blog, where they also said they received a "flood of judgment" online for their religious beliefs and that advertisers had withdrawn their sponsorship of the magazine.

"White Magazine has always been a secular publication, but as publishers, we are Christians," wrote Burrells. "We do not want to create a social, political or legal war that divides people more and does more damage than good."

In December 2017, the Australian Parliament legalized gay marriage.

Gay photographer Lara Hotz, who filmed three covers of White Magazine, told Radio Hack that the Burrell did not want to introduce gay or lesbian couples, reports the BBC.

"It seems that they are happy to take money, content and photographs from LGBTQI advertisers and contributors, but they have not yet supported us and represented them in the same way that heterosexual couples are represented in the magazine, "she told Hack.
