The Fantasy football players were already planning to cover their Rams and Chiefs players the following week in the 12th week, but on Sunday there were a few surprises that dramatically changed the landscape of independent players.
1. Josh Adams, RB, Eagles
Adams had exploited the potential of the big players and had finally managed a 28-yard touchdown against the Saints. The Eagles appreciate the versatility of Wendell Smallwood and Corey Clement, but none can compete with Adams as a ram with some kicking ability, which probably makes him the main threat to score in the run.
Do not take it for the next Adrian Peterson, but it's a very good flex option for the 12th week against the Giants.
2. D.J. Moore, WR, Panthers
Many fantasy owners probably felt regret Sunday. Moore was dropped in 4% of Yahoo leagues (now 39% owned) and nearly 3% of ESPN leagues (32%). Oops. Moore had 157 yards and one touchdown on seven catches. Devin Funchess seems a little more than a lure, with most deep throws and some extreme zone looks going to Moore.
3. Colt McCoy, QB, Redskins
Alex Smith broke his Sunday leg against the Texans, an unfortunate circumstance for Smith but an opportunity for McCoy, who racked up 54 yards and a score after being put to the service. Sorry to hit a man when he is on the floor, but Smith was a disappointment with 13.8 fantasy points per game, according to fantasydata.com.
McCoy, who has been part of the Redskins 'system since 2014, will likely be closer to Kirk Cousins' 17.4 last season.
4. Tre'Quan Smith, WR, Saints
Who needs Dez Bryant or Brandon Marshall? Smith was culminating after another Sunday against the Eagles and might have avoided intercepting his quarterback as he returned to the ball after receiving a third-quarter 18-yard reception. When the dust cleared, he collected 10 catches for 157 yards and a touchdown, which probably allowed him to gain a lot more confidence in Drew Brees.
5. Lamar Jackson, QB, Ravens
Saint Michael Vick! Jackson racked up 117 yards on 27 carries in a 24-21 win over the Bengals. He looked like a beginner who made his first start at quarterback, which earned him 150 yards and a choice.
If he can avoid turnovers and just a few more passes, his rush could make him a huge league. And watch how the next four games have been well prepared for him: Raiders, at Falcons, at Chiefs and Buccaneers.
6. Rashaad Penny, RB, Seahawks
Three healthy backs are good news for the Seahawks and a headache for the fantastic GMs. However, rotation of BRs is never achieved in Seattle. So it's wise to hide Penny, who seems to have preceded Mike Davis on the chart in depth.
If Chris Carson were to be injured (again) or if the Seahawks increased the score, Penny could see a good workload. In his last two games, he averaged 7.7 yards per race.
7. Seth Roberts, WR, Raiders
Should Roberts be excited or nervous? He is about to see the workload of a beginner, but only because the receivers fall like flies to Oakland. The latest ones have been Brandon LaFell (torn Achilles) and Dwayne Harris (chest) against the Cardinals. Derek Carr said via ESPN: "It's as if Thanos had snapped their fingers and they disappeared."
The Raiders could bring in another body, but Carr's only other healthy receivers are currently two rookies. Roberts has at least four seasons in Oakland.
Roberts averaged only 10.6 yards per receiving, but has already scored two of his 25 catches and has already worked in the red zone.
8. Adam Humphries, WR, Buccaneers
Ryan Fitzpatrick or Jameis Winston, it does not make much difference to Humphries. He broke through the end zone with two quarters, including receiving Winston's Sunday goals against the Giants. Humphries also returns punes, which is a bonus.
The 49ers, Panthers and Saints are all among the top 16 points allowed for receivers.
9. Jonnu Smith, TE, Titans
After eliminating the Cowboys and Patriots in the weeks that followed, the Titans may have underestimated the Colts before suffering a 38-10 loss. Nevertheless, Smith managed his third consecutive week with double-digit PPR points.
Smith's next opponent, the Texans, has allowed at least 71 yards and one touchdown in each of their last two games. Let's hope for him Marcus Mariota (elbow) will not be a scratch.
10. Peyton Barber, RB, the buccaneers
Barber (17 points in the 11th week) finished two tenths of a point ahead of Alvin Kamara. I just wanted to write it down because we might never see it again. It's a decent game of desperation against the 49ers for homeowners who are going to suffer with Todd Gurley and Kareem Hunt.
