Embiid has 33 points, 17 rebounds while 76ers beat Suns 119-114

PHILADELPHIA – Joel Embiid scored 19 of his 33 points after half-time and added 17 rebounds to help the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Phoenix Suns 119-114 on Monday night.

Ben Simmons added 19 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists for Philadelphia, who earned their third straight win while improving their record to 9-0 at home, remaining the only undefeated home league. The 76ers play five of their next six games in Philadelphia.

Devin Booker earned 37 points and eight assists for the Suns, who began a four-game road trip with their sixth loss in seven games. Phoenix, which has dropped to 3-13 in general and 0-7 on the road, has the worst record in the West and is one of three NBA winless road teams.

Solid first-half shots allowed Phoenix to take a surprising 62-57 lead at half-time. The 76ers took control of the game in the third period, taking their advantage over the three-point play from Embiid at 3:45 of the quarter. They finished the next period 92-86 and led by 12 at the start of the fourth day on J.J. The Redick runner.

Suns trailed and T.J. Warren's 3-pointer with 3:06 remaining cut to 109-104. But setting up Embiid at 58 seconds from the end of the match was 114-106 and was decisive.

Rookie Deandre Ayton had 17 points and nine rebounds in his first match against compatriot Embiid.

Embiid is mocked by analysts' Ayton comparisons on draft day, saying on Twitter: "Do not compare me with Ayton either, I play DEFENSE." The noisy center of the 76ers then told ESPN, in a pre-interview, that "Ayton" was about to get kicked.

To his credit, the Suns recruit answered questions about Embiid saying that he would let his game speak.

And the 7-footer did just that in the first possession Monday night, finishing Booker's pass with a dunk alley-oop for an emphatic start to the match. Then, he forced Embiid to make a turnaround in the first attack of the 76ers star.

But Embiid had the best of this point.

Jimmy Butler, a four-time star, in his fourth game with the 76ers after last week's game with Minnesota, had 16 points after scoring three points as time went into overtime to lead Philadelphia to a 122-119 win at Charlotte on Saturday.

Mikal Bridges, from Philadelphia and producer Villanova, scored 13 points in 23 minutes for Phoenix. The rookie was drafted 10th by the 76ers before being sent to the Suns for choice # 16, Zhaire Smith, and a first-round pick of 2021. Smith has not played yet due to a foot injury left and an allergic food reaction that will prevent it at least until January.
