Case Casey Kasem: A family quarrel bursts around the fortune of the legendary broadcaster several years after his death

More than four years after the legend of the radio Casey Kasem is deadJean Kasem, his wife, unveils for the first time at "48 hours" his version of the last days of her husband, substantiates the charges of murder in a lawsuit and discusses a violent family feud. "The mysterious death of Casey Kasem" will be broadcast on Saturday, November 24 on CBS.

At the peak of his career, Kasem has been heard by millions of people around the world as the host of the American music show "Top 40" and as a voice of "Shaggy" in the classic of the cartoon "Scooby Doo".

But towards the end of her life, her family made the headlines about an argument between the children of her first wife, Kasem, and Jean Kasem, his second wife. After his death on Father's Day in 2014, the feud intensified when both parties accused each other of contributing to his death. They then quarreled over his estate and his estate.

"They killed my husband," said Jean Kasem at "48 hours" by Peter Van Sant. "They killed their father."

"Jean killed my father," retorts Kerri Kasem, one of Kasem's three adult children, adding that "what she did led to her death".

In 2014, while Casey Kasem was dying of a disease resembling Parkinson's disease, the value of his estate was estimated at between 80 and 100 million dollars. Kasem said that her husband's children, Kerri, Julie and Michael, were only looking for her money and that her husband had cut them off financially.

"There has always been talk of money," she said. "We became the bank of Kasem, we were the ATM."

She claims that the children were furious and launched a premeditated plan that led to the death of their father. Kerri Kasem and his brothers and sisters make similar claims against Jean.

"The only thing she wanted from my father was money," said Kerri Kasem. "That's all."

"One day, dad told me not to confront Jean," Kerri Kasem told Van Sant. "You do not know what she's capable of."

Jean Kasem reveals to Van Sant how she transferred her sick husband to a drug rehab center in Santa Monica, California, to a friend's home in Silverdale, Washington State. It is there that Casey Kasem has spent some of his last days. She says she had to move him to "protect her husband". She then said that her children found them and forced her to move to a hospital where he was finally removed from the survival system.

Kerri Kasem and his brothers and sisters attribute the death of his father to John's actions. Kerri had a court order allowing her to take her father to the hospital for treatment. When Casey arrived at the hospital, his diagnosis was bleak. The hospital records indicate that Casey was suffering from a Stage 3 ulcer on the back, septic shock, respiratory failure and many other ailments.

Casey's youngest daughter, her first marriage, Julie Kasem, said at "48 hours" that he was extremely skinny.

"Her face was sunken," she says.

Kerri, Julie and Michael Kasem brought a lawsuit for wrongful death against their mother-in-law. Jean Kasem brought an action against the adult children of her husband for the same reasons.

"What she did to my father was elder abuse," says Julie Kasem. "Right and simple."

What really led to Kasem's death? That's for sure: while his loved ones continue to argue about their estate seemingly endlessly, Kasem's body rests in an anonymous grave in Oslo, Norway.
