Keller Group to Participate in Macy's Thanksgiving Parade

Although this is on the list of all group directors, Mark McGahey has avoided it for years. Until after 22 years as a group director at Keller High School, he finally submitted a bid to participate in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade.

Of the hundreds of groups that apply, you are rarely chosen at first.

"I think we knew it was a possibility, but not a strong possibility," McGahey said.

So, soon after posting, Mark brought the group together to tell them the bad news: they would not be home for Thanksgiving this year.

This announcement was made over a year ago and they will be coming down on 6th Avenue on Thursday.

"It's as if they had announced it yesterday," said senior baritone player William Allison.

"Just to know that what we have done, all the work we have done outside of school and at school, practice, we are recognized for that," said Allie Smith, a young french horn.

Do not expect an overview of the performance. Thursday's show is so secret that we were allowed to film them to practice it. We could only watch the group cross its steps.

But if their performance resembles that of two weeks ago, America is enjoying.

At the UIL State Championships, the Keller Indian Band climbed to eighth place.

But on Thursday, they will go on an even bigger stage.

Millions of people will follow and, hopefully, listen to the sweet sound of success.

"I want them to see a group of students who have worked very hard to be in the place they are," Smith said.

"And I think it will be something where people will notice," wow they are really gathered and I think that's a group I need to pay attention to now. "It's good to be on the national stage to do that," added McGahey.

Clearly, you have to be grateful.
